A portable UE(User Equipment) for power management and a transmission mode control method using the UE are provided to limit power as much as predetermined buffer capacity through traffic control, so that the limited power can be transmitted to an RNC(Radio Network Controller), thereby continuously maintaining the first set connection mode, consequently power consumption is minimized. A communication mode selector(10) selects one of a maximum performance mode and an optimal battery usage mode of a portable UE(1). When the optimal battery usage mode is selected, a controller(50) assigns the first and second buffers(22,24) for traffic management. A traffic manager(20) compares the remaining space of the first buffer with a data storage capacity of the second buffer. If the data storage capacity is larger than the remaining space, the traffic manager copies a portion of data stored in the first buffer as much as the storage capacity of the second buffer to send the copied data by a predetermined transmission mode. |
