The method involves arranging labels (4) in form of a label stack (16) in series in a label magazine (2). The foremost label of the stack is held at a dispensing opening (20) by restraining devices, and an object or a transferring element for transferring the labels from the label magazine to the object to be labeled is introduced in a region of the dispensing opening to the foremost label. Air is supplied between the labels of the label stack from different directions in vicinity of the dispensing opening. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a label magazine for accommodating labels (2) a device for applying labels on an object.
