A length measurement method, a line to measure, and a length measurement apparatus are provided to calculate the length of the line with a time difference between transmission and receiving of light or electricity. A length measurement apparatus includes a transmitting unit, a receiving unit, and a time/distance calculator. The transmitting unit includes a first probe(103a) and a transmitter. The first probe comes in contact with the line and receives optical or electrical signals. The transmitter transmits the signals to the time/distance calculator. The receiving unit includes a receiving/amplifying unit and a second probe(103b). The receiving/amplifying unit receives and amplifies the signals. The second probe comes in contact with the line and receives the signals. The time/distance calculator includes a signal processor, a control/counter unit, and a clock generator. The signal processor performs counting from a transmitting start signal to a receiving end signal. The control/counter unit controls transmitting and receiving units and counts the length of the line. The clock generator generates a clock signal.
