The present invention provides a compound that promotes oestrogenic activ ity for use as a medicament for the promotion of wound contraction. Such med icaments may provide an amount of the compound that promotes oestrogenic act ivity equivalent to that promoted by approximately 400ng of 17.beta.-oestrad iol, per centimetre of wound, or cm2 of unwounded tissue, to which the medic ament is administered. Methods of promoting wound contraction are also provi ded.
