The unit (1) has a shell (32) for accommodating a shaft assembly (12), which is supported at a front-side and is axially prestressed against the shell. The shaft assembly is axially prestressed by mechanical deformation of a part e.g. front-sided part e.g. cover (9), of the shell, where the mechanical deformation lies in a plastic area. The part of the shell is axially prestressed by plastic deformation of the shaft assembly. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing an electric motor driven drive unit.
