PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the amount of radioactive waste generated due to the activation of a cutting and volume reducing device itself. SOLUTION: A cutting and volume reducing device 10 comprises a cutting tool 14; a cutting device 11 having a tool lead-in mechanism part 16 for leading in the cutting tool; a suspending device 12 gripping and suspending the work to be cut of radioactive waste 1; and a rotating and holding device 13 for horizontally holding the suspending device and rotating the same around a perpendicular axis. The work suspended by the suspending device is rotated, by the rotating and holding device by a predetermined angle and is cut by the cutting tool. The suspension device 12 comprises a base part 26 having a rotating cylinder 29, rotated by the rotating and holding device 13; a chuck mechanism part 30 for gripping the work; and an attaching part 27, installed detachably at the lower part of the rotating cylinder, and a plurality of types of the attachment parts are prepared, corresponding to the kinds of the work to be cut.
