Administration of agents that bind to an alpha-4 integrin for the treatment of inflammation

Disclosed is a use of an agent selected from an antibody or an immunologically active fragment thereof which binds to alpha-4 integrin or a dimer comprising alpha-4 integrin for preparation of a composition for the chronic treatment of a pathological inflammation caused by multiple sclerosis in a patient in need thereof, wherein the agent being present in the composition in an amount sufficient to saturate at least 65% to 100% of alpha-4 integrin receptors in a patient when administered repeatedly (preferably weekly or monthly) for a period of at least 6 months.
