PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device capable of calculating a proper time left until the end of the lifetime of a discharge lamp reaches, taking into account of the characteristics of the discharge lamp. SOLUTION: The display apparatus includes: a time measuring section 118, which measures the usage time of the discharge lamp 30 from the beginning of its use; a lamp voltage upper-limit storage section 123, which stores the lamp voltage upper limit, or the upper limit of the lamp voltage, to which the discharge lamp can be operated; a function storage section 122, which stores a lamp voltage function estimating a change with the lapse of use time of the lamp voltage; and a remaining time calculating section 124, which calculates the difference between the first time derived from the lamp voltage upper limit and the lamp voltage function and the use time measured by the time measuring section, as the remaining time for which the discharge lamp is usable.
