PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotation detector capable of improving the detection sensitivity, and to provide a manufacturing method for the rotation detector. SOLUTION: The rotation detector 100 for detecting the rotating state of a rotor 200 comprises a cylindrical magnet 40 that generates a bias magnetic field, with its edge facing at least a rotating body 200 being open; a magnetic detection element 10, in a bare chip state that outputs detection signal according to the change in the bias magnetic field that accompanies the rotation of the rotating body 200; a mount section 21 for holding the magnetic detecting element 10 inside the cylindrical magnet 40; and a sealing material 50, filled inside the cylindrical magnet 40, where the magnetic detecting element 10 is held by the mounting section 21.
