PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alkaline dry cell superior not only in leakage proof performance but also in discharge performance as gas generation is suppressed. SOLUTION: The alkaline dry cell 11 is provided with a positive electrode can 21 formed of steel plate 24a as a principal material and a positive electrode mixture 31 inserted inside the positive electrode can 21. A chelating agent 24d which can form an iron complex is arranged between the inner side face 21a of the positive electrode can 21 and the outer circumferential face 34 of the positive electrode mixture 31. In this case, it is desirable that, for example, a conductive membrane 24c as a chelating agent-contained layer to contain the chelating agent 24d is formed on the inner side face 21a of the positive electrode can 21.
