PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus capable of photographing a still picture of high quality without depending on the kind of a lens device. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus includes an imaging unit 103, a first image generating unit 106a configured to generate a still image having one frame based on two field images obtained by light exposure at the same timing, a second image generating unit 106b configured to generate a still image having one frame based on two field images obtained by light exposure at different timings; and a switching unit 108 configured to switch to either one of the first image generating unit and the second image generating unit, depending on whether a detachably mounted lens device 115 includes a shutter unit 114 that interrupts the exposure of the imaging unit.
