A dental dam clamp (10) comprises first and second spaced, opposing jaws (16, 18) and respective first and second tooth engaging portions (20, 22) on the jaws (16, 18). The first and second tooth engaging portions (20, 22) are positioned in confronting relation to one another and are biased toward one another by a resilient member (40) when the jaws (16, 18) are moved outwardly from a free state defining a first position of the jaws (16, 18). In one embodiment, first ends (28, 30) of the tooth engaging portions (20, 22) are spaced closer together than the second ends (32, 34) of the tooth engaging portions (20, 22) when the jaws (16, 18) are in the first position. The spacing between the first ends (28, 30) of the tooth engaging portions (20, 22) may be substantially the same as the spacing between the second ends (32, 34) of the tooth engaging portions (20, 22) when the jaws (16, 18) are moved outwardly to a second position. In another embodiment, the tooth engaging portions (20, 22) include friction-increasing surfaces (70a, 70b, 70c) to help secure the clamp (10) to a tooth. |
