PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide stable pattern detection by removing influences of various types of disturbance caused by the background, and to shorten a processing time by reducing a processing load of pattern matching in image recognition. SOLUTION: An object and the background are separated, and an average concentration of each original image is specified as their concentration. An autocorrelation coefficient of a pattern image is calculated in advance. In a scan process by the pattern image, an autocorrelation coefficient of a pattern image and a crosscorrelation coefficient between the pattern image and the input image are calculated. By carrying out pattern matching by using only an object portion except for a background portion from the pattern image, the influences of disturbance of the background can be removed, and a calculation time is shortened.
