PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hub unit bearing capable of reducing the sliding friction loss between a roller head and a major flange of a conical roller bearing. SOLUTION: The hub unit bearing comprises an outer ring 3 having tapered raceway surfaces 7, 9, a first inner ring 15 and a second inner ring 31 having tapered outside raceway surfaces 17, 33, and forming roller engaging major flanges 25, 37 in a major diameter side end of the outside raceway surfaces 17, 33, and a plurality of conical rollers 19 freely turnably arranged between both the raceway surfaces. At least one of the roller engaging flanges 25, 37 and the head 19a of the conical roller 19 is covered with a metallic coating by shot peeling using a non-ferrous shot material.
