<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a heat insulating material which is high in strength, high in heat insulating performance, high in corrosion resistance and small in reheat shrinkage, and to provide the heat insulating material. <P>SOLUTION: The method of manufacturing the heat insulating material is carried out by adding and mixing 4-17 pts.mass magnesia clinker having 95 mass% purity and ≤100 μm maximum particle diameter, 70-82 pts.mass alumina powder having ≥99 mass% purity and ≤310 μm maximum particle diameter and 10-20 pts.mass alumina cement to contain 4-16 pts.mass MgO, 80-93 pts.mass Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>and 2-4 pts.mass CaO and to control the ratio MgO:Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>by mass to 1:(5-25), adding a pore forming material and heat-treating. The heat insulating material has ≥50 vol.% apparent porosity, 0.7 W/(m×K)heat conductivity at 350°C, ≥5MPa compressive strength and ≥-0.05% reheat shrinkage at 1,500°C. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
