PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain an air flow from being generated in a space between a charging roll and a cover in the rotating direction of the charging roll. SOLUTION: Above the charging roll 24 for charging the surface of a photoreceptor drum 12, the cover 42 is disposed so as to cover the upper part of the charging roll 24. The cover 42 has an entrance 44 for use as an air inlet on the upstream side of the charging roll 24 in the rotating direction, and an exit 46 for use as an air outlet on the downstream side thereof. The cover 42 is formed such that a distance between an internal wall 42A on the entrance 44 side and the charging roll 24 is longer than a distance between the internal wall 42A on the exit 46 side and the charging roll 24. Consequently, the inflow resistance of air flowing from the entrance 44 is made lower than the outlet resistance of air let out from the exit 46. This makes air less likely to escape from the exit 46. Accordingly, an air flow from the entrance 44 to the exit is restrained. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
