Two contact lenses are moulded by placing a sheet 16 of polymethyl methacrylate over a mould 12 placing a male mould member 14, e.g. a polished ball bearing, on the sheet, placing a further sheet 16 on the member 14, a further mould 12 on the sheet and pressing the assembly by a pin 36. The moulds may be arranged in two rows in a block 20, heated by electric elements 46, 46a and cooled by water passages 52. Pressure is applied to the pins 36 by a lever 38 having a weight 40, which lever may be pivoted at 42 to enable it to act on either row of pins.
