An automobile has a fuel inlet to an intermediate reservoir that discharges under pressure to a fuel tank. The pump outlet pipe has a back-flow prevention valve and discharges to a part of the tank that is constantly wet. The pump operates in response to the fuel level in the intermediate reservoir. The fuel pump is operated by a motor located within the fuel tank (1). The fuel delivery pipe (16) from the pump incorporates a filter or a sieve (15). The intermediate reservoir is located within the main tank (1).
