A method for assessing the extent of the adaptation to astigmatism comprises the estimation of the position of the major meridians in astigmatic eye, the estimation of the refraction in the setting of cycloplegia with fixation of its values and in each meridian, the calculation of the extent of astigmatism in diopters, where . A position of the nearest point of the clear vision in two major meridians is measured with the narrow pupil. The difference in the diopter values is calculated and compared with the extent of astigmatism . The relationship obtained is indicative of the conclusion as to the adaptation pattern. The extent of the adaptation to astigmatism is finally assessed.
