PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an operation control method of an ice thermal storage system, enabling optimum break-up operation for load fluctuation and arbitrary constant load operation without the capacity control of a following refrigerator deteriorating efficiency, in a heat sink using an ice thermal storage system. SOLUTION: In this operation control method of the ice thermal storage system, cold heat is stored by making ice in the nighttime, and cold heat generated by break-up in the daytime is utilized. The instantaneous heat radiation amount of the cold heat by break-up and the residual heat storage amount accumulated in the nighttime are taken as guidelines to change the number of following refrigerators operated for compensating for the shortage of the cold heat amount caused by the break-up.
