An optical medium marking system and method are provided to distinguish contents of an optical medium easily in the dark or by a visually handicapped person. A optical medium marking method includes a step of recording information at predetermined depth(28) in an optical medium(12) through the recordable surface using laser; a step of forming a label by removing a part of the material of the non-recorded surface of the optical medium as much as the predetermined depth or less; and a step of reading the information from the recorded surface by irradiating the laser to the predetermined depth of the optical medium. The removed material is altered into a different material with a visual effect.
