Preparing a compound (I) containing isocyanurate group and at least an other functional group comprises reacting toluene derivative containing non-isocyanate reactive group and isocyanate group, in the presence of a trimerization catalyst. An independent claim is included for a preparation of isocyanurate based on 2,4-toluylene diisocyanate comprising trimerizing 4-methyl-3-nitro-isocyanate, hydrogenating the nitro group of the obtained product and converting the amino group of the product with phosgene.
