PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spacer 30 which is inserted to a water jacket 3 formed by a groove 1b on the cylinder block side 1 and a recess 2d near valves 17, 18 of a cylinder head 2, which is used for adjusting the circulation amount of a coolant, which circulates in the direction crossing a cylinder bore 1a, in the axial direction of the cylinder bore 1a, and which can improve cooling capacity around a combustion chamber 14. SOLUTION: A passage 34 and a discharge part 32 are provided to the barrel 31 of the spacer 30. The passage 34 receives the coolant sent by pressure from a water pump 7 and distributes the coolant in a direction of crossing the cylinder bore 1a, and the discharge part 32 discharges the coolant within the passage 34 toward the recess 2d which is on the cylinder head side. Because of this, since part of the coolant supplied to the water jacket 3 on the cylinder block side from the water pump 7 is forcefully introduced to the recess 2d on the cylinder head side through the medium of the passage 34 of the spacer 30 and the discharge part 32, the coolant is actively circulated in the recess 2d.
