For detecting metallic particles (MP) two sources of light are provided, illuminating a disc from two opposing sides on which various particles are located. The disc is scanned for obtaining a digital-optical (IMG) of the disc. An optical image is digitally processed for identifying the particles on the disc. Points of bright illumination are digitally detected on the disc. It is determined which of the detected points of bright illumination are associated to identified particles and the respective particles are determined as metallic particles (MP).
