The method for greatly correcting a gradation value by a gradation correction unit significantly reduces the number of gradations which can be reproduced. An information storage unit of a liquid discharge head capable of expressing one pixel by a multi-start droplet contains information for selecting a boundary table for multi-value error diffusion for each discharge condition. When a liquid discharge head is mounted, the selection information matching the discharge condition is read out and the boundary value table corresponding to the selection information is set for reference of a half-toning unit. Thus, it is possible to optimize the boundary value table and correct the gradation characteristic without significantly reducing the number of gradations which can be reproduced.
