PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a collision detecting means capable of detecting collision of a pedestrian with a bumper of a vehicle. SOLUTION: The collision detecting means has a back plate 1 fixed to a side member Fm of the vehicle, an absorber 2 defining a space between the absorber 2 and the back plate 1, a chamber member defining a sealed chamber space 30, and a pressure sensor 4 detecting the pressure of the chamber space 30. Collision is detected from changes of the pressure of the chamber space 30. The collision detecting means can be inexpensively and simply manufactured, and is excellent in detection accuracy.
