PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a code expanding device that achieves a minimum throughput of 4 as to the data expansion processing of a compressed data expanding device, can perform real-time data expansion processing without an intermediate buffer for a printer having a throughput of 4, eliminates the need for a page memory for an intermediate buffer, also eliminates the need to multiply a clock frequency for driving the data expanding device by 4, and prevents the cost increase of a system. SOLUTION: An expanding means has a pattern matching means of comparing a multi-code word read out by a code reading means with a code pattern stored in a code pattern storage means to detect a code pattern that the multi-code word matches, and is characterized in that code data as many as matching patterns are simultaneously expanded.
