[Also in Division B8] A machine for forming a carton from a blank (see also Division B8 for details of the carton) covered with heat sensitive adhesive has a reciprocating plunger 19 (shown by light dashes) which pushes the base 2 of the blank into a die 18 where the walls are erected and the preheated corner flaps 8, 9 stuck to each other when they pass between pairs of rollers 20. Folding members 29, each operated by a sheet metal member 21, itself rocked about a pivot (not shown) by descent of the plunger and acting through a link-transmission 22-28, fold the corner flaps against the wall panels 5, 6 where they are pressed by rollers 32, (33), see also Figs. 5-7 (not shown). A suction cup 35 and an air blowing hole (36), Fig. 6 (not shown), in the plunger 19 facilitate the removal of the carton from the die, the blown air moving the carton side edge within range of a stripper plate. It is then moved on for filling before final sealing. The blank is introduced into the machine by a conveyer 17 which has means to preheat the areas which are required to be stuck. |
