<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new H<SP>+</SP>-ATPase of Zostera marina and a gene encoding the same and provide a method for using the same. <P>SOLUTION: The new gene Zha2 having partial homology with the cell wall type H<SP>+</SP>-ATPase of various plants is identified in determining a base sequence of the H<SP>+</SP>-ATPase of Zostera marina and identifying the new gene, and its cDNA is isolated. As a method for introducing the Zha2 protein to the cells, an expression vector combined with the Zha2 gene or its cDNA is introduced in a proper host and expressed, therefore the Zha2 protein can be produced in the host.
