PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for drying wood, targeting at cored wood relevant to small-diameter wood such as thinned-out wood, which prevents distortion or bending from occurring at drying, and not only lowers resistance to termites and mold, but also keeps its commercial value. SOLUTION: This drying method used for adjusting a moisture content of wood comprises steps of preparing square timber 1A sawn from virgin wood 1 into a size larger than the size of final shape, forming a cut groove 1A1 or a nick 1A2 on each of the four faces of the square timber 1A, drying the square timber 1A with the cut groove 1A1 or the nick 1A2 for a time within four days by using a drying oven set at a medium temperature state lower than 100°C, and finishing four faces of the square timber 1A after drying into the size of final shape by removing the cut grooves 1A1 or the nicks 1A2.
