This invention relates to a latch assembly (1) having a hand engageable means (2) for operating a first latch release means and a key tag reader (3) for operating a second latch release means. The hand engageable means (2) is operable from a first height and the key tag reader is operable from a second height which is lower than the first height. The latch assembly (1) is suitable for use on pool fence gates and the like.
