A guide rail(10) mounted on and parallel to a baseplate(G) supports a vertically movable cutting bow. The inverted U-shaped bow comprises a rear vertical arm(20), an upper horizontal rail(30) and a front vertical arm. A heated cutting wire is tensioned between two movable holders which can be locked onto the parallel, current carrying, vertical arms. The base rail(10) is parallel to and at a distance from the baseplate(G) and its front face lies in the plane of the baseplate. The rear vertical arm(20) lies behind and the front vertical arm in front of the baseplate. The horizontal rail(30) at the upper end of the rear vertical arm is perpendicular to the latter and the front vertical arm can be locked at various horizontal positions along the rail. An extension section can be added to the horizontal rail when panel thickness requires this. A heated wire section for cutting is tensioned beween front and rear diverting rolls. Each roll is carried on a slide which move along the front and rear vertical arms and can be locked in position. Movement of the front slide is limited by a adjustable stop. The rear vertical arm(20) has two or more sliding shoes(23) which move in a channel of the base rail. One shoe acts in conjunction with a rotatable knob(21) to enable the rear vertical arm to be moved and locked in any desired position along the base rail. A plastic sliding washer(22) minimizes friction and abrasion between the base rail and vertical arm.
