A control unit comprises a housing containing circuitry for generating a signal suitable for use with a dressing that incorporates a pair of electrodes for treating damaged tissue (fig. 1). The control unit varies the amplitude between 50 and 500 micro amps. The frequency may also be varied between 10 and 900 Hertz.
