PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an operating method of a phosphoric acid fuel cell that enables the phosphoric acid fuel cell to generate electricity at high output. SOLUTION: The generating cell 10 is structured to be equipped with an electrolyte layer 16 which is impregnated with an acid liquid electrolyte such as phosphoric acid inside the matrix composed of a basic group polymer. In operating the phosphoric fuel cell 40 which has a fuel stack composed of a prescribed number of the generating cell 10 unit or the generating cells 10 group electrically connected in series, the supplying pressure of the oxygen contained gas and the hydrogen contained gas is established so that the pressure of the cathode side electrode 14 of the generating cell 10 becomes higher than that of the anode side electrode 12.
