PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for treating a bamboo material which can eliminate disadvantages concerning waste liquid treatment, without lowering treatment efficiency. SOLUTION: The bamboo material 100 is immersed in a treatment liquid 10, which is prepared by mixing sodium hydrogen carbonate, fat and oil, and water and heated at a prescribed temperature and bleached by maintaining it in this state for a prescribed length of time. The treatment liquid 10 is preferably prepared so that the content of the sodium hydrogen carbonate is 0.1-0.4 wt.%, and the content of the fat as well as the oil is 2-4 times the content of the sodium hydrogen carbonate.
