[Also in Division F4] A method of making a heat exchanger element comprises corrugating two metallic strips 1, 1a and then superimposing them so that the corrugations of the strips bear on one another over substantially the whole surface thereof. The corrugated strips may have openings 5 and associated wedges 6 formed therein or alternatively openings with wedges 6 1 and the wedges of one corrugation fit into or are aligned with an opening in an adjacent corrugation. The heat-conducting properties of the strip may be varied by altering the pitch of the corrugations by compression thereof. The corrugated strip may be fixed to a transistor support (7) (Fig. 7, not shown) or it may be wrapped around a lamp (Fig. 10, not shown). In the latter case, the wedges 6 1 are preferably used to keep the heat exchanger element in resilient contact with the lamp. The corrugated strip may also be formed into a cylinder, which is flattened by opening out one end radially, and the annular disc so formed also serves as a transistor support (Fig. 11, not shown). |
