PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for operating a solar system, capable of avoiding excessive design for a battery capacity for covering all non-sunshine periods of past sunshine data, and system down during the non-sunshine period which exceeds the specification. SOLUTION: In this method for operating a solar system, under such a condition that the battery voltage reaches a charge preset voltage and the battery capacity begins to have a continuously decreasing tendency, the rated capacity of the battery, the battery remaining capacity criterion obtained, based on the rated capacity of the battery, and estimated battery operable days obtained, based on the load current amount obtained by the current flowing through the load and time are obtained.
