<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power unit preventing being attached to a main body apparatus incorrectly and reducing load for power control on the main apparatus side and an image forming apparatus with the power unit. <P>SOLUTION: The power unit 10 is attached to a copying machine 1 to be freely attachable/detachable. The power unit 10 is provided with a power supply part 19, a recording part 12, a communicating part 11 and a power control part 18. The power supply part 19 supplies power to a copying machine 1. The recording part 12 records function specific information which specifies the function of the power supply part 19. Furthermore, the recording part 12 records power value setting information regarding power value to be supplied to each part of the copying machine 1. The communicating part 11 provides function specific information to the copying machine 1 and at the same time acquires power value setting information from the copying machine 1 by carrying out communication between the copying machine 1 and the control part 50.
