The detector has a cavity (2) extending into a case (1) to guide a ball (3) rotating inside the cavity. An electro-optic transmitter (5) and a receiver (7) transmit and receive a light beam (9), respectively. The receiver generates a slope detection signal while stopping and releasing the beam. The transmitter and receiver are placed with respect to the walls (11, 12) of the cavity provided with an electricity conducting layer. The ball stops or releases the beam when rolled on the layer during which the layer prevents a local accumulation of electric charges on the walls.
