PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for forming plate glass by which plate thickness dimensional quality is kept for a long period, particularly an apparatus and a method for forming plate glass mounted on a liquid crystal display. SOLUTION: The apparatus for forming the plate glass is provided with a formed body in which a trough type molten glass supply groove having an opened upper part is provided on the top, both side wall top parts of the glass supply groove is used as a weir for overflowing and the cross-section of the outside surface of both side wall is formed wedge-shaped. A void part is provided in the cross-section of the formed body which is vertical to the longitudinal direction of the formed body and the molten glass is supplied and made to overflow from one end of the the glass supply groove and the the plate glass is formed at the lower end. The unit cross-section part of the formed body in the longitudinal direction satisfies (Wh/W0)<(Zh/Z0) when the section modulus of the formed body having the void part in the cross-section is expressed by Zh, the mass of the formed body in the unit cross-section part is expressed by Wh, the section modulus of the formed body before the formation of void part is expressed by Z0 and the mass of the formed body in the unit cross-section part before the formation of void part is expressed by W0. The method of forming the glass plate is a method for forming a plate glass to be installed on the liquid crystal display using the apparatus for forming the plate glass. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
