PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image recorder which can carry out image recording to a proper position of a material to be recorded, by using an alternative signal for detecting the material to be recorded if a detecting part for detecting the material to be detected is judged to have a possibility of being unable to perform detection. SOLUTION: A judging part 22 of the first detecting part judges a detection capability of the first detecting part 23 by using a reference reflector 24. When it is judged that there is a possibility for the part to be unable to detect the material to be detected, image recording is carried out by using alternative information, for example, a detection signal by a second detecting part 30. Accordingly, even when the first detecting part 23 is contaminated, image recording can be carried out to a suitable position of the material to be recorded. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
