A mobile communication terminal having a diversity function and a transmission power control method thereof are provided to set transmission power by considering whether a diversity receiving function is used, when the transmission power is controlled by a loop power control method, thereby ensuring the quality of a transmission signal. A controller confirms whether a diversity receiving function is being executed(S10). If so, the controller confirms an output level of a receiving signal received through a main antenna(S12), and confirms an output level of a receiving signal received through a diversity antenna(S14). The controller compares the output levels of the receiving signals to select receiving signal power having a smaller level(S16). The controller calculates transmission power based on the selected receiving signal power(S18), and wirelessly transmits transmission data through the main antenna according to the calculated transmission power(S20).
