PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bio-response reducing method to reduce a bio-response of a substance with a nanostructure, a substance-modifying device to make the nanostructure of the substance with the nanostructure disappear to reduce the bio-response of the substance with the nanostructure, and an air conditioner equipped with the substance-modifying device. SOLUTION: An electric discharger 20, in the substance-modifying device, is equipped with a linear or needle-shaped positive electrode (a discharge tip 21b of a discharge electrode 21) and a planar negative electrode (a counter electrode 22). The nanostructure of the substance with the nanostructure disappears, by making contact with active species which are produced by streamer discharge, in which the discharge between the positive electrode (the discharge tip 21b) and the negative electrode (the counter electrode 22) occurs stably and substantially simultaneously between a position of the positive electrode (the discharge tip 21b) and a plurality of positions on the negative electrode (the counter electrode 22), and are diffused between the positive electrode and the negative electrode. Thus, the bio-invasive reaction, attributed to the nanostructure of the substance with the nanostructure, is reduced by making the nanostructure eliminated. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
