摘要 <p>Sylvite is recovered from sylvite-containing clay slime-bearing potash ores by comminuting the ore to liberate the sylvite from the gangue components of the ore, heating the comminuted ore to a temperature of at least 150 DEG F. but below the fusion point of the ore, differentially charging the ore, passing the charged ore through an electrostatic field at a temperature not greater than 425 DEG F. to produce a clay slime-containing sylvite concentrate, slurrying the concentrate with brine saturated with respect to sylvite, conditioning the slurry with a flotation reagent having a preferential affinity for one of the components of the concentrate, and subjecting the slurry to froth flotation so as to recover a sylvite concentrate. In the preferred operation, sylvinite is crushed, heated to 125 DEG -1000 DEG F., cooled to 125 DEG -350 DEG F., the particles of sylvite and halite differentially charged by cascading through an earthed vibratory trough, the sylvite electrostatically separated by free fall through a D.C. field gradient of 1,000-15,000 volts/inch, and the electrostatically produced sylvite concentrate slurried in brine and conditioned to float sylvite or halite. Conditioning agents mentioned are C14-18 primary aliphatic amines and their salts e.g. octadecylamine acetate and hexadecylamine hydrochloride salts of fatty acids, such as oleic acid and pelargonic acid, naphthenic acid, sodium resinate, sodium salts from the reaction of sodium hydroxide with cotton seed oil or tall oil, and sulphate or sulphonate deriatives of lauric acid or lauryl alcohol; metallic cations such as lead or bismuth are necessary with some anionic reagents.</p>
