METHOD OF ACTIVATING REGENERATION OF A NITRIC OXIDE ADSORBER

There is described a method of activating regeneration of a nitric oxide adsorber (8), and which includes: determining the flow of nitric oxides ( NO X ) through the nitric oxide adsorber (8); determining the quantity of nitric oxides ( NO X ) converted to nitrogen dioxide ( NO 2 ) in the nitric oxide adsorber (8); determining the quantity of nitrogen dioxide ( NO 2 ) adsorbed by the nitric oxide adsorber (8); determining a regeneration index ( I REG ) indicating the residual adsorption capacity of the nitric oxide adsorber (8); comparing the regeneration index ( I REG ) with a regeneration threshold ( I TH ) indicating the minimum residual adsorption capacity of the nitric oxide adsorber (8); and activating regeneration of the nitric oxide adsorber (8) when the regeneration index (I REG ) is less than or equal to the regeneration threshold (I TH ).
