<p>Fabrics, e.g. cotton fabrics, are protected against the action of noxious organisms, e.g. fungi and bacteria, by coating them with mixtures of neomycin and bacitracin, zinc neomycin and bacitracin, zinc bacitracin and neomycin, zinc bacitracin and zinc neomycin, copper neomycin and copper bacitracin, copper neomycin and bacitracin, or neomycin and copper bacitracin. The compounds may be applied to the fabrics in any order although it is preferred when applying free neomycin or bacitracin in combination with zinc or copper neomycin or bacitracin to apply the zinc or copper neomycin or bacitracin first. The zinc or copper neomycin or bacitracin may be formed in situ on the fabric by placing the fabric in an aqueous solution of bacitracin or neomycin, adding an aqueous solution of zinc or copper chloride, adjusting the pH of the solution with sodium hydroxide to precipitate the zinc or copper neomycin or bacitracin on the fabric, removing the fabric from the solution and drying it. The fabric may then be treated with a solution of neomycin or bacitracin in a lower alcohol, e.g. methanol or butanol 0,05-2% by weight of the mixtures based on the weight of the fabrics may be applied. The mixtures may comprise from 100 units of neomycin containing compound: 1 unit of bacitracin containing compound to 1 unit of neomycin containing compound: 5 units of bacitracin containing compound.ALSO:Textiles, e.g. cotton fabrics, are protected against the action p of noxious organisms, e.g. fungi and bacteria, by impregnating them with mixtures of neomycin and bacitracin, zinc neomycin and bacitracin, zincbacitracin and neomycin, zinc bacitracin and zincneomycin, copper neomycin and copper bacitracin, copper neomycin and bacitracin, or neomycin and copper bacitracin.
