<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emitting diode with high brightness capable of improving efficiency of extracting light converted in wavelength by a phosphor, also increasing the quantity and enlarging the surface area of the phosphor. <P>SOLUTION: An LED chip 14 is connected and fixed onto a substrate 12 made of an insulation material, one of electrodes of the LED chip 14 is connected with one of external electrodes 16a, and in addition the other electrode of the LED chip 14 is connected with the other external electrode 16a. The LED chip 14 is covered with a dome-shaped piece of nonwoven cloth 22, and the phosphor 20 is carried on the surface of a fiber 24 constituting the nonwoven cloth 22. Further, the LED chip 14 and the nonwoven cloth 22 are surrounded by a frame member 28, and the LED chip 14 is sealed by a translucent lid member 30 formed by filling the frame member 28 with a translucent material, thereby providing the light emitting diode 10. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
