The transmission has a transmission component (11) and a variable-ratio gear unit (12) that comprises a set of transmission forming drive units. The transmission component power branches the gear unit to a counter shaft at one hand, and to the main shaft on another hand. Output gearwheels of the component transmission are connected to a transmission shaft via a gear shifting unit. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating an automated transmission of a motor vehicle.
