LIQUID CRYSTAL LENS ELEMENT AND OPTICAL HEAD DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal lens element which has a lens function to correct its spherical aberration and is suitable for miniaturization with less moving components.

SOLUTION: The element has transparent electrodes formed on each transparent substrate, irregularities formed on a transparent substrate, or the irregularities formed on one transparent substrate, and transparent electrodes formed on the irregularities and the other substrate. The liquid crystal layer is the parallel oriented nematic liquid crystals filled at least in the recesses of the irregularities. It changes the refractive index according to the applied voltage, and there are voltages to make the optical path difference λ2, λ1, 0, -λ1, -λ2between the projection and recess transparent electrodes for the abnormal polarized incident light of the wavelength λ1, λ2.
