PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To set an optimum volume value according to the kind of a slave unit connected to a slave unit connecting device. SOLUTION: A nurse call system of the present invention is equipped with the slave unit 2 having a call button 24 which is operated by a patient to call a nurse, and a speaker 21, a microphone 22, and a microphone amplifier 23 for talking, a passage lamp 4 having the slave connecting device 3 which is installed nearby a patient bed and for connecting the slave unit, a volume control part 42 which is installed at the entrance into a sickroom to connect the slave unit connecting device and controls the sound volume of a speech signal from the microphone amplifier, and an intermediate amplifier 41 which amplifies the speech signal, and a master unit 1 having a calling speaker 11 which is connected to the passage lamp and gives notice of calling of the patient and a telephone call device 14 for making a telephone call. The slave unit connecting device has a recognition device 31 which recognizes the kind of the slave unit and outputs an identification signal S1, and the passage lamp is equipped with a CPU 43 which controls the sound volume of the speech signal by the volume control part of the passage lamp according to the identification signal.
